Canoe Gathering 3 by Nick Stull, a mixed media painting of an individual in a blue boat with an orange tipped oar in a green-tinted scene of water and trees

Plans for Wex exhibition designer and artist Nick Stull and his wife, Liz Morrison, to show a new collaborative body of work at Blockfort Gallery this summer were in place well before COVID-19 upended exhibition calendars across the globe. After taking some time over the spring to regroup, Blockfort and the artists opted to proceed with the show, Vessel Versus, which is on view through September 27.

Dense with visual texture and transfixing details, Morrison and Stull's mixed media paintings began with an interest in boats and exploring how humans interact with water. From this initial idea grew three connected series encompassing other vessels used to traverse the world, including the body. As the canvases developed, Morrison was also writing poetry around the same theme; a new art book featuring this work, Vessel Verses, can be seen in the Blockfort show, as well.

Open gallery hours (with mask requirement) are scheduled for Saturdays in August. The full exhibition is also available to view online along with a behind-the-scenes video interview with the artists.
