Spotlight on Video Game Preservation

Presented by Rich Whitehouse, Head of Digital Conservation, Video Game History Foundation

Live Q&A | Feb 26

Virtual | Cinema Revival

For years, Cinema Revival has hosted experts who’ve shared their stories of restoring and preserving our cinematic treasures. But what of the rich and diverse history of video games? Who’s preserving that past?

Join us as Rich Whitehouse, head of digital conservation for the Video Game History Foundation, sheds light on the foundation’s mission to preserve and celebrate the history of this still relatively new field of entertainment that continues to grow in popularity, technological sophistication, and cultural impact.

In this talk, livestreamed starting at 7 PM on February 26, Whitehouse details the detective and technical work necessary to resurrect games from the past. Among the fascinating examples he’ll discuss are a previously thought lost version of Days of Thunder for the classic Nintendo Entertainment System and Nuclear Rush, an early attempt at a virtual reality game developed for the Sega Genesis console. A live Q&A follows the February 26 conversation; enjoy the entire presentation on this page afterward.
